One of the perks of living in Southern California is the proximity to so many amazing places to visit right in our backyard. Located 3.5 hours north of Los Angeles on California’s rugged Central Coast, you will find 2 charming small towns that you can easily enjoy in 24 hours while social distancing, Morro Bay and Cambria. Here’s our 24 hour itinerary that we hope you can enjoy soon!
Stop #1 – We left Los Angeles at approximately 8:30am and made it to Morro Bay a few minutes before noon.
We absolutely love oysters and would totally drive to Morro Bay for the oysters alone. Our pick for the best place to eat raw oysters is the Grassy Bar Oyster Company. Take out only. Order and sit on one of the tables outside overlooking Morro Rock. They close at 5pm and sometimes sell out, so call before you go.
Standing 580 feet above the entrance to the Morro Bay harbor, “The Rock,” as its called by the locals, is the signature icon of Morro Bay.
After you stuff yourself with Oysters, take a stroll in Downtown Morro Bay. Filled with quaint and color little storefronts, it’s a short but pleasant walk. Also, we can’t forget to mention that the town is very dog friendly.
Where to stay: About a 20 minute drive north of Morro Bay is the lovely little beach town called Cambria. Stay at the Castle Inn in Cambria. Directly across from the famous Moonstone Beach. The rooms are simple but have all you need for a one night stay. Also only about a 5 minute drive to Downtown Cambria where a lot of the dinning is located.
Cambria loves to go out all for Halloween and Christmas. Their annual Scarecrow Festival is reason alone to visit. We hear Christmas is just as lit, literally. This year due to Covid, the scarecrows were displayed in different sections throughout downtown Cambria.
The stretch of coastline along the town of Cambria is some of the most beautiful in all of California. Moonstone Beach is a must stop. You won’t want to stop taking pictures!
Stroll through downtown Cambria’s antiques shops and old charm streets.
Redwood Cafe, a great spot for breakfast or lunch before heading home. Take out or sit outdoors.
Our last and final stop was back to Morro Bay, where we went back for seconds on the oysters and found a cute little wine bar called STAX WINE and BISTRO. Enjoy a glass of the zinke syrah and the fried baloney and say goodbye to the Central Coast.
