If you live in Southern California, you go to the Palm Springs area to get away and do nothing, but what do you do if want to low key do something low key. Here our 4 recommendations from our recent trip to Palm Springs/Rancho Mirage for you to try!
1- Visit Sunnylands, the former winter retreat home of the Annenberg Family. Walter and Leonore Annenberg frequently hosted both political leaders and famous entertainers at Sunnylands, including President Barack Obama. Bring a hat.
2- Stop by the Melissa Morgan Fine Art sculpture garden featuring a revolving installation of sculpture and interactive art works. Grab lunch or do some shopping at Rancho Mirage’s Paseo shopping district and walk over to the garden.
3- Hike Chuckwalla Trail – Enjoy some of the most gorgeous views of this desert. Located next to the Ritz Carlton Rancho Mirage. This easy to moderate loop should take you about an hour. Break a sweat and then head over to the Ritz Carlton for breakfast or lunch at State Fare Bar & Kitchen restaurant (reservations suggested).
4. Cruise through the Twin Palms neighborhood in Palm Springs and do a self-guided architecture tour. Mid-century modern architecture fans will drool as they drive-by the beautiful butterfly roofs crafted by the late architect William Kristel.
OK, now you can go back to drinks by the pool.
